The instrument is distinguished by the elegance of its silhouette, its finely carved female head, and its colourful geometric decoration, characteristic of the Jenzat school of instrument making. The instrument was played during the early twentieth century by an Italian-born musician named Pediconne, who lived in Le Creusot. At that time, the town was home to many hurdy-gurdy players and had become an important centre for the performance of the traditional music of central France.<\/p>\n
